Consultant
Una brings the rigour of 20 years of teaching adults, and the warmth of an Irish brogue to her fun and practical workshops.
‘I focus on simple, practical guidance for writing confidently and effectively,’ she says. ‘And I like making it fun because then you don’t notice you’re learning.’
Comfort and confidence are the foundation of positive learning, she says. ‘First go back to the basics. Grow what you know, then work from there.’ From that starting point, she’ll take the learning as far as needed — whether that’s basic principles, tips and tricks, or advanced techniques for specialist writing.
Una believes good writing is a fundamental right. She looks beyond the widely recognised benefits of plain language — like saving time and money, and building better relationships. ‘I believe that writing and reading your own language is a basic human right. But many native speakers don’t write to their full capacity. When you learn how to get the best outcomes from your writing, you’re granting yourself that right, and using that ability in full to do the best for all your readers.’
Quality learning is a key motivation for Una. She has worked in quality assurance and as an education inspector. She knows how to set and maintain the highest standards for workshops. She’s adept at tailoring the content to participants’ professional needs, and the approach to the group’s or individual’s character and preferences.
Una has taught and worked in her homeland, and in the US, Australia, and New Zealand.
All our consultants have the skills and smarts to make any workshop a success. But they each have special passions too.
Una really loves:
Una has a great way of presenting the material and skills. It was really easy to take on what she is talking about and put it into real life situations. There are a number of new skills and methods I will now use in my work and personal life.
The trainer, Una, was awesome. She explained everything really well and was great at making us all feel comfortable to speak.
Una was a great trainer and provided a great environment for learning. I really enjoyed the opportunity to take part in this training.
