Skills you’ll gain on the day
In this half-day workshop, you’ll gain a basic understanding of how generative AI works for writing and your role as the human expert.
After this half-day workshop, you’ll have the knowledge to:
- understand the risks, ethics, and responsibilities of using AI writing tools in your context
- explore the possibilities of AI writing tools throughout the writing process
- create effective prompts to gather content and produce a useful draft
- use AI features to write better drafts that reflect the Write Plain Language Standard — a quality standard for clear communication.
Bring your device and an AI writing tool
You’ll need to have an account with a generative AI tool, such as Chat GPT, Copilot, or Gemini.

This workshop is for people in all sectors who write for work, and who:
- have recently started using AI tools for writing at work
- want to use AI tools for writing but don’t know where to begin.
Who this training isn’t for
If you’re already experienced and happy using AI writing tools, or looking for an in-depth technical course, this introductory workshop is not for you!
